Introduction and Goal
Riding high off of "Get Out's" cultural and theatrical success, Universal approached us to create an FYC Campaign for their hit movie. They wanted it to feel like the movie, raw, gritty, and real with a bit of tongue in cheek humor. The campaign was to cross many channels including billboards, magazines, DVDs, Bus Shelters, Campaign Books, and more.
Process and Experience
What started out as a straightforward campaign quickly grew in scope and context. One of the largest pieces of this campaign was the book. The book was being sent to all the who's who in Hollywood. We needed to gather hundreds of pieces of fan art, lay it out in book format, create interstitial pages that showed accolades and reviews for the film, get a statement from Jordan Peele, and make it all feel cohesive. Creating this campaign took a lot of experimenting, a lot of last minute changes internally and externally, and brute force. There were so many late night and early mornings. This was a huge learning experience for me, and a real test of flexing creative muscles.
Outcome
This campaign helped "Get Out" win an Academy Award, I have no doubt about that. The campaign created so much buzz and interest around the film's Oscar Nomination. It was everywhere around Los Angeles and New York. Universal loved it and were showing it off every chance they could. They were very happy with the outcome, the work produced, and the creative direction. It is an experience I will never forget.
